About Us

In 1984, Joe Sulley opened Homecraft Brew and Wine Supplies - a simple retail store which focused mainly on beer kits, but with some wine supplies as well. At the time, at-home brewing was HUGE and everybody knew someone who was making their own beer or wine at home. Beer was definitely way more popular than wine, but that slowly shifted in the 90s.

In the mid 90s, Rob, Joe's son, joined the business and this is when the at-home-winemaking really took off. Homecraft paired up with Winexpert, the world's largest source for high quality wine kits around the world, bringing in a selection of fantastic kits! The funny thing about it though, is that typically it takes 10-20 years for a vineyard to mature.. so when the boom of at home winemaking happened there wasn't enough high quality grape juice to go around! Which means that the wine (at the time) wasn't very good.

Fast forward to now, all of these vineyards in prime winemaking regions around the world have more grape juice than they know what to do with, and that's where Winexpert swoops in! After decades of creating these kits, the process has been perfected and we have access to stunning wine kits at an incredibly affordable price and reduced carbon footprint compared to purchasing wine from the LCBO. We've been making wine with these kits for over 20 years, and the quality just keeps getting better and better!

Around 2016, the craft brewing boom happened, and we wanted to bring the craft brewing movement to the home brewers! We started carrying malts, hops, grains and a selection of beer yeasts, as well as starting our Craft Brewing Workshops - an easy, casual way to learn how to make some fantastic craft beer at home! Not only is it delicious and easy, DIY-ing it saves you boatloads of money!!! Aside from a little hiccup in 2020 (I think we all remember what happened there...) we've been doing our workshops ever since, bringing the world of craft beer a little closer to home.

In 2021, Emma, Joe's grand daughter and Rob's daughter, joined the Homecraft team and brought along Flight Cheese Shop, the only gourmet cheese counter in Kingston's West End! And with wine & cheese.. who can go wrong!! Learn more about Emma's story on Flight Cheese Shop's website here.

After almost 40 years, Homecraft is still kickin' in Kingston's West End in the Bayridge plaza, offering high quality ingredients, selection, and service with a strong passion and focus on making great beer and wine.
